Audiologists in Maidstone

Many first-time clients are unsure what to anticipate during a Maidstone hearing test or are concerned about whether inner ear examinations and evaluations are likely to be uncomfortable. All of the tests we offer are entirely pain-free, using the latest equipment and technology to provide tests suitable even for very sensitive ears or following an ear infection or surgery.

Below, we’ve summarised what you can expect during each testing phase, depending on the tests your hearing aid dispenser recommends.

• Video otoscopy involves a tiny camera, enabling us to see what is happening within your inner ear in great detail. You can see a live feed of the captured footage as we explain what we’re seeing and what that tells us.

• Speech mapping is a great way to see how you hear and perceive sounds at different frequencies and volumes, and we use hearing aids to map a visual picture of any areas of hearing loss.

• Ear pressure tests, also known as tympanometry, allow your audiologist to examine the health of your middle ear, checking for issues such as damaged eardrums or fluid that can cause pain and discomfort.

• Word list testing involves wearing a set of headphones, where we play a series of sounds at varied volumes and pitches. This test helps to accurately diagnose any specific types of sounds you struggle to hear.

• Hearing loss simulation uses a technological tool to demonstrate how sounds appear to you. This test is ideal for clients who bring a partner or friend with them and showcases which types of sounds you cannot hear.

Before and during each test, we’ll walk you through the steps and can stop at any time if you would like more information.
